Volunteer Application
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Whitewater High School. Schools are now required by the State of Georgia to train all volunteers as mandated reporters of child abuse.
In compliance with this law, the Fayette County Board of Education has implemented a new training procedure for ALL school volunteers and chaperones. Prior to volunteering or chaperoning you will need to view a FERPA video and a .pdf document containing information about Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting. The slides in the .pdf, linked below, cover the procedures for providing child abuse mandated reporting as it relates to school volunteers/chaperones.
Once you have read the information in its entirety, please fill out (or update) the volunteer application for the school(s) in which you want to volunteer. At the bottom of that form, check the box acknowledging that you have read the Mandated Reporter training and on what date. Please make sure that ALL of the information required on the form is submitted. With this process, you can offer to volunteer at more than one school with one application, and you will only need to apply once, confirming you have completed the training. Once your school approves your application, you will be able to sign in as a volunteer in the front office kiosk.
To finalize the volunteer approval process, WHS volunteers must complete the WHS Volunteer Information form.

Required Background Check for Volunteers
Georgia Law O.C.G.A. 35-3-34.2 states that volunteers who may have unsupervised access to children, including all chaperones for overnight field trips, will submit to a fingerprint screening which includes a query through the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) of their criminal history. An Unsupervised School Volunteer is an individual who performs their volunteer duties without direct supervision from school staff.
After the volunteer applicant completes the Volunteer Mandated Reporter Training and submits the online application, the school will forward the volunteer’s contact information to the Human Resources Department to schedule a fingerprint screening appointment.
The Human Resources Department will process background checks as quickly as possible; however, results may take up to two weeks. Volunteers may begin their duties only after receiving clearance from the Human Resources Department.
Volunteers must undergo a background check every 5 years and a criminal history check each year.
